NIGERIA'S PRESIDENT BUHARI COMMENDS MILITARY GAINS AGAINST INSURGENCY

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has warned the nation’s armed forces to desist from human rights abuses or risk being sanctioned.
Buhari gave the warning in Kaduna state,northwest of the country, during the passing out parade of cadets from the nation’s defence academy.
President Buhari commended the military for their zest towards ending insurgency in the country.
Tesem Akende reports that in accordance with the
norm, President Muhammadu Buhari upon arrival
at the Nigerian Defence Academy headed for the
saluting dais for the national anthem.
President Buhari was the reviewing officer on the
occasion and he described the day’s graduation as
special to him, as it was the first since he was sworn-into office a few months ago.
A joyful day it was, not for the graduating cadets alone, but their friends and members of their families.
Although under the scorching sun, their spirits went high when the president extended greetings to them while inspecting the guard of honour.
President Buhari commended the nation’s armed
forces on their gains against terror in the country,
encouraging them to consolidate on their
successes.
But on the flip side, he frowned at excesses of military personnel and wants a civil-military relationship, warning military personnel to desist from human rights abuses.
Three hundred and ninety nine cadets cutting across the army, navy and other military formations graduated this year.
